KM Electrical commenced operations in 1994 and continues to provide professional services to residential, strata corporations, and commercial and corporate clients within the electrical, telecommunications, and security contracting industries.
Our company is customer service focused, with attention to detail, and places importance on ensuring that completed electrical works are both safe for you and your family and meet compliance with electrical regulatory standards.
We strive to provide our customers with professional advice, technically precise installations, together with ongoing maintenance and repairs as required backed with guaranteed quality workmanship.
As a direct response to customer demand, we expanded our areas of expertise in 1998 to encompass garden landscape lighting design, installation, and maintenance projects.
We have the industry-specific technical background and field experience necessary to both supply and install your next garden landscape lighting project.
The garden lighting industry has undergone significant change over the last few years having migrated away from halogen-type light sources to more efficient energy-saving led light sources.
The reasoning behind the market shift can be contributed to many factors notwithstanding the number of new manufacturers entering the AU market place but additionally led lamps can match and now exceed in many instances existing halogen lamp outputs, run typically cooler in heat output together with the added bonus of lower overall energy consumption.
The shift some years ago by the Federal Government in implementing the minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) which came into effect in 2016 effectively banned the importation of # MR-16 halogen lamps exceeding 35 watts together with a large number of other conventional filament style incandescent lamps.
The Federal Government mandate triggered a catalyst of change within the lighting industry motivating the manufacturing industry to seriously ramp up investment in led lighting solutions requiring significant research and development (R & D) in engineering design and development of led technologies.
The results of these engineering designs and product developments are now clearly transparent as led lamp technology has evolved to the point of being the industry market leader and the preferred replacement lamp option for both traditional incandescent filament lamps and halogen burner lamps.
At that time pre – 2016, halogen downlights were still predominately the preferred option utilising 50-watt or similar lower wattage halogen lamps. There were alternative halogen lamps available including infra-red coated (IRC) lamps that could better radiate the lumen (light output) forward and match the halogen lamp but they still operated at higher temperatures when encapsulated in a semi-sealed light fitting and or exterior wall light fitting typically led to premature lamp failures and more on-going maintenance work.
There were some other regulatory revisions implemented post-2007 including but not limited to the requirements for heat cans to be installed for replaced and or new halogen downlight fittings but overall the rapid advances in led technology were outstripping halogen burner lamps.
Some of the advantages of led lamp technology include the overall lower operating temperatures, increased safety considerations particularly when downlights were installed in roof space/roof cavities, and lower overall energy consumption costs when compared to halogen, mercury vapour, and or metal halide discharge lamps – high-intensity discharge (HID) technology.
Led garden and landscape lights generally require lower maintenance, use less energy than a comparable halogen lamp, are available in various colour outputs – superior colour rendition (warm, cool-neutral or daylight rendered colours), and operate typically at lower temperatures (reducing the risk of a burn or personal injury if touched when in operation), require no or short warm-up lamp times and provide longevity in operation without significantly reduced lumen (light) output.
Led garden lights are available in two distinct options, the first being an integrated–fixed and non-removable lamp requiring replacement of the entire light fitting upon a lamp failure. The secondary and more widely used option is where the garden light fitting incorporates a lens cover that can be unscrewed allowing access to replace the led lamp fixture which can be typically undertaken by the customer.
A low voltage garden landscape design concept consists of either a single or number of transformer supplies depending upon the particular application, low voltage cabling, ancillary installation components, and the selected garden lighting fixtures that will achieve the required effects. These may include underwater pond lighting, pathway land or driveway approach lighting, recessed feature and or spotlighting of garden beds, shrub up-lighting, or specific feature ornaments.
The concepts surrounding garden landscape lighting can be confusing and this is where we can be of service to you. Some points to consider during a design scope include the correct placement of garden lighting, the number (quantity) of garden light fittings that may be required to achieve the lighting effects, circuit loading logistics, supply arrangements, load control switching, voltage drop characteristics, cabling termination techniques, and applicable transformer ratings.
We have been affiliated with the garden landscape lighting market since 1994 and can provide you with industry-specific technical background coupled with installation field experience. We can answer any of the above questions including any other queries you may have during the design sequences and will ensure that the completed garden landscape lighting is fit for the purpose intended, safe for you and your family, and meets compliance with electrical regulatory standards.
We can supply and install the selected garden lighting or if you prefer just to install the garden lighting you have purchased. If selecting the second option where you purchase the garden landscape lighting we recommend that you discuss your design scope with us prior to purchase so that we can confirm the suitability of the lighting for the project.
It is our primary objective to gain a thorough understanding of your garden landscape lighting design including the anticipated or concept lighting effects that you want to achieve on completion of the project scope.
We approach the garden landscape lighting design through a consultation strategy, allowing us to develop a brief together with recommended suggestions and practical cost alternatives that will deliver a landscape scheme for you and your family that will create years of enjoyment that are tailored to the specified budget.
Once the design scope has been settled we will commence the installation sequences whilst continuing to work with you, resolve any concerns raised, and remedy any unforeseeable cabling installation issues whilst ensuring that the commissioned garden and landscape lighting system has both achieved your expectations and met the project objectives discussed during the initial consultation sequences.
We take pride in the works that we undertake and strive in providing quality installation outcomes whilst ensuring that the works are fit for the purpose intended, safe for you and your family, and meet compliance with electrical regulatory standards.
We warrant our electrical installations, service, and repairs that we undertake with a 12-month warranty period inclusive of any parts that we supplied during the course of the works and our labour component. The warranty period commences following the practical completion of the project works.
